Panel Discussion
  • Rainer Polak, André Holzapfel
  • Panos Mavromatis
  • Sarah Weiss
  • Luis Jure

  • The panel will address issues such as "do computational approaches to world music analysis need to be sensitive to the cultural/social aspects of music, or such 'emic' perspectives, which have been until recently the focus of much world music scholarship?" And if so, how? Or is a more formal, or 'etic', approach to computation in world music analysis defensible as well?
